You don't want to miss this one! Last time we went it turned out to be one of the best overnights we have done. The kids get the run of the whole science center which is a blast. They will feed us, have organized activities, IMAX movie among other things. Once all that is over we get to camp out in the museum overnight. Siblings are very welcome and we encourage them to attend.  Parent will have fun too so don't worry.

Our annual end of summer splash event is at the Highland Point neighborhood clubhouse field.  3750 Club House Ct, Marietta, GA

We will be shooting off water rockets and playing games. Bring two, 2-liter bottles for each scout and sibling.

  • Coolers with drinks provided but please bring any other drinks or snacks you might need.
  • Siblings are welcome as always.
  • Kids should wear swimsuits because they WILL get wet. Also wear water shoes or crocs & bring swim goggles or mask (we will need them for a few of the games).
  • Parents please apply plenty of sunscreen on your kids prior to the start of the games. Swim shirts are also a great idea.

Summer Bicycle Rodeo (Sat. June 8th)

posted Jun 2, 2013, 1:11 PM by Web Master

This is a fun and instructive event for the scouts and siblings. We will have representatives from our own Cobb County Police Department to discuss safety and rules of the road with the pack. We will do a safety check for each bike and rider, so be sure to have a helmet and water bottle along with your bike. While the boys are waiting for their turn at a safety check they will work on making their own customized bike licenses.  After the bikes and riders check out they will start riding the courses. There will be two courses, one for beginners and one a little more advanced. Everyone who attends will earn the bicycling belt loop. We are also hoping to have scorecards and participation certificates for the boys.

Bring: Bike, Helmet, Closed Toe Shoes, Water Bottle, Sunscreen, Camera, Folding Seats help, and make sure you bring a great attitude!

Great time at the Pinewood Derby!

posted Jan 27, 2013, 7:16 AM by Cub Master

Yesterday sure was a great day for Scouting!  Of course, as is today...

The Scouts did an awesome job with their cars!  The cars were all super fast and looked even better.  The judges had a really difficult time with the beauty contests as all the cars looked great.

The new track worked flawlessly.  Well worth all the hard work selling popcorn!

A special thanks to all the parents who helped throughout the day.  Scouts have a great experience in 1417 because we are such a great unit.  We are a great unit because of all the parents who help throughout the year.  Your participation, no matter how small, helps to make the best possible Scouting experience for all of our Scouts.  Thank you!

While we had a lot of parents help out, three in particular earned recognition.  Peter Hortman, Liz and Tim Davis.  Peter took car of researching, procuring, and testing the new track along with all of the setup and race day operations.  Liz headed up the concession stand and made sure that we had all the tasty treats we needed.  Tim continued his perennial role as master of ceremonies doing an awesome job to which 1417 has grown accustomed.

Thank you all again for making this a wonderful and memorable event for all our Scouts!

Holiday Party: December 17

posted Dec 10, 2012, 1:53 PM by Cub Master

That time of year!  Time to celebrate everyone's respective holiday's.  I know I am looking forward to a time to spend with my wonderful family.

To celebrate the holiday season Pack 1417 will have our traditional party with the highlight of the evening, Den Sled Races.  I know you all have worked hard to make the awesomest and fastest sled!

In addition to all the fun, it's an opportunity to help others through our own charitable efforts.  A Marine from Toys for Tots will be in attendance to collect toys to distribute.

Please bring an unwrapped, new present that is appropriate for a child the same age as your Scout.  I strongly encourage you to involve your Scout in the purchasing process, explaining the need for having a charitable heart.

In addition, we will have an old Scout uniform collection bin at the party.  Please bring any outgrown or unused Scout uniform pieces.  We will present the to the Foothills District to be given to Packs with uniform needs.

Happy Hanukkah and Merry Christmas!

Pie-tastic Pack Meeting!

posted Nov 14, 2012, 5:14 AM by Cub Master

Somewhere between the 300th and 400th pie (at least that's how it felt) I wondered, "What was I thinking?" Then I remembered 24,000 reasons.....  At least this year I was smart enough to keep my hair....

Congratulations to all the Scouts in the $600 club who helped make this mess.  A huge thank you for our Popcorn Kernal, Brian Young!  Your hard work paid off in the highest Pack sales ever!!!!

I wonder what next year has in store.......
